WHAT'S UP?

PERSONAL GROWTH

One of the most surprising things to me when entering the undergraduate sphere of education was just how much control over my education I have as a student. The feeling of accomplishment that comes from creating your own schedule, and being responsible for ensuring that you actually learn and retain the things learned in a class that will define your future career was unexpected, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything. My enrollment in the University Honors program since my freshman year has been instrumental in shaping my academic trajectory. This enriching experience has not only fostered intellectual growth but has also provided invaluable opportunities for leadership development and interdisciplinary learning. This, in addition to working part-time and being in a demanding organization that I love, has taught me the importance of doing things you're passionate about and giving them your all. As I move forward and anticipate applying to Graduate School, I will have to use the skills that my work and school have given me. Using the academics, experience, and passions I have gained while at Texas A&M, I hope to continue moving forward in Classical Studies. Hopefully, I may help foster a passion for the Ancient Mediterranean world in my peers, and in subsequent generations after me. 

CAPSTONE
I am incredibly excited to start work on my Performance Capstone in the Spring of 2024 with Dr. Christoph Konrad. Dr. Konrad was kind enough to agree to mentor me as I work on a modern retelling of Virgil's Aeneid. As a seasoned expert of Roman history and Latin itself, he is the ideal mentor for this project. The project itself will consist of a rudimentary translation of the original text, which he will help me polish. I will then take this translation to retell Virgil's story, specifically the portions that deal with the character Dido. This project will showcase my concentration on ancient languages, while also fulfilling my passion for making Classical Studies more accessible for future generations. 

CAMPUS INVOLVEMENT
Starting off as a freshman, the sheer amount of student organizations was absolutely overwhelming. I waited until the end of my Sophomore year to delve into that world. I am so glad I did. I applied to be a part of TAMU BUILD Command Team, as part of the Internal Relations team. The experience has been incredibly rewarding, and it's amazing to be able to see the tangible impact the dedication of my time can have on my community. It has also forced me to grow academically, as BUILD takes up approximately 6 hours each week, I have learned to be much more organized and judicious in how I prioritize my work. Along with this, I have enjoyed participating in TAMU’s Big Event, an even more tangible way to help improve the lives of those in my community.
